The Treez HUNTZ: the Treezor hunt in your city lands in Paris, then Liège

What if your next walk through the city turned into a full-blown Treezor hunt? That's the idea behind The Treez HUNTZ, Treez's new one-off event: a real gift, hidden somewhere in your city, revealed on the map on the big day to anyone with the app open and notifications turned on. First to arrive, first to win.

Starting the week of July 20, 2026, The Treez HUNTZ kick off in Paris. Next stop: Liège, a few days later, for a second edition on the Belgian side.

What is a Treez HUNT?

The Treez HUNTZ are one of the flagship formats of the Map, the rewards universe accessible from the Treezors room in the Treez app. Unlike the classic Treezors offers (discounts, gift vouchers, experiences at partner businesses that you redeem with your Treezs), a Treez HUNT is a one-off, localized event:

  • a gift is physically hidden somewhere in your city;
  • its location appears as a pin on the Map, revealed only on the day of the hunt;
  • the info drops via push notification, often without an exact time announced in advance;
  • the reward goes to whoever (or whichever team) reaches the spot first.

It's the real-world version of what already makes Treez fun elsewhere in the app: swiping creator content, earning Treezs by liking (Match) or giving constructive feedback (Pass), then spending them in the Treezors room. The Treez HUNTZ add a real-time, on-the-move layer of play, designed to create a shared moment across your city.

Why city-wide scavenger hunts work (and why now is the right time)

This isn't a one-off bet. The urban treasure hunt, in its many forms, has already proven its ability to mobilize crowds and get people moving through public space:

  • La Grande Chasse, the mass-market treasure hunt created in France in 1993, mobilizes hundreds of thousands of participants across the country every year around a single clue to decode and a treasure to find proof that a simple mechanic (a clue, a location, a reward) is enough to create lasting collective excitement.
  • Geocaching, the worldwide GPS treasure hunt run by Geocaching HQ (Groundspeak), claims several million active members and several million caches scattered around the globe: a concrete example of a community built entirely around the logic of "clue → movement → discovery."
  • Pokémon GO remains the most-cited example of the impact of a location-based game on urban behavior: a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine (Howe et al., 2016) measured a significant rise in daily step count among players in the days following sign-up, and market data (Sensor Tower) documented spikes in foot traffic near points of interest in the weeks following each local launch.

What these three cases have in common: a simple game mechanic, a race-to-discover element, and a tangible reward are enough to turn a city into a playground and get thousands of people moving. The Treez HUNTZ borrow that same recipe, adding the app's community layer on top: Treezs to earn, creators to discover, and a Treez Club of ambassadors who can spread the word to their network.

How to join a Treez HUNTZ: the 4-step guide

To make sure you don't miss the pin on the day, here are four things to set up now:

  1. Download the Treez app on the App Store or Google Play. It's your mandatory entry point: no app, no access to the Map or the pin.
  2. Turn on push notifications. This is the channel used to announce the hunt's start and the pin reveal. Without notifications on, you risk finding out well after the first arrivals.
  3. Create your Treez account. It's required to access the Treezors room and, from there, the Map where the pin shows up.
  4. Open the Treezors room > Map tab on the day of the event, as soon as you get the notification, and head to the spot shown. First on-site, first to grab the gift.

On top of that, swiping creator content regularly (Match or Pass) lets you stack up Treezs to spend on the Map's other offers while you wait for the next Treez HUNTZ.

Paris then Liège: the schedule for the first two editions

  • Paris: first Treez HUNTZ starting the week of July 20, 2026. Test city for this new event format.
  • Liège: second edition a few days later, kicking off the international rollout of The Treez HUNTZ and reaching Treez's Belgian community.

More cities will follow depending on how these first two editions go: how fast the pin gets found, how many people show up, and app engagement during the event.

FAQ

How do I know when a Treez HUNTZ is starting?

The info is only shared through push notifications in the Treez app. You need an active account, the app installed, and notifications turned on to receive it.

Where can I see where the gift is hidden?

On the Map, inside the Treezors room. The pin stays hidden until the day of the event, then reveals itself at the time announced in the notification.

Do I need Treezs to join a Treez HUNTZ?

No. The Treez HUNTZ is a standalone event, open to any user with an active account. Treezs are used to unlock the Map's other ongoing offers (discounts, gift vouchers, partner deals).

Will The Treez HUNTZ happen anywhere besides Paris and Liège?

Paris and Liège are the first two cities. More editions are being considered based on how these launches go.

What happens if I don't get there first?

Only the first person to arrive gets the hidden Treez HUNTZ gift, but you'll receive some consolation prize thanks to brand partners. Also, you can still keep earning Treezs through your usual actions in the app (swipe, match, pass), which you can spend on the Treezors room's other offers.
